Festive hanachozu

I always admire Japan's attention to detail that shows itself in various little things. A prime example is this hanachozu that was updated at one of my favorite local shrines this week – and they've given it a festive, Christmassy makeover! There was a Santa Claus (complete with his pompom hat) and a snowman surrounded by green and white flowers and even some pinecones, and I had to smile at how cute it was.

The most festive hanachozu I've ever seen!

I think at this time of year it can be easy to feel homesick or miss family and friends back home. This was a glimmer of joy in my day that really helped boost my spirits—it's the little things, sometimes!

Have you seen any hanachozu with Christmas themes before?
