Tips for Hachijojima?
Have any of you visited Hachijojima? I have wanted to travel there for a while, but wanted to know a) how long you'd recommend to see all the main things, b) any attractions that could be good for kids there, c) foods worth trying (restaurant/cafe suggestions are welcomed). Or are there other Tokyo islands that you think are better to visit if you've explored other ones?

I adore Hachijojima! I've visited twice but only in winter. A long time ago, it was promoted as "Japan's Hawaii". I'd say one or two overnights is enough. Look up my reviews of Hachijo attractions! When I stayed at Lido Park Resort on the east side of the island, there were many families - grandparents with their grandchildren and parents with very small kids. There's a pool, rental bicycles, and a nice onsen there. There are camping/cottage options, too. Fureai Ranch has gorgeous, docile Jersey cows. I recommend asking the ranch about milking and grazing times and visiting the Jersey Cafe for pudding and soft ice cream. Hattori Yashiki has dance and drum performances. Nearby is the Meiyu textile workshop, perhaps more appealing to adults than kids. But it might spark children's interest in traditional textiles. Look out for a hanafuda card set that features the Hachijo dialect which might appeal to word nerds. I noticed lots of car rentals. The island is two volcanic mountains so lots of up and down and roads that go around. The hiking routes are not easy but awesome because they're jungley.

@TonetoEdo This is such a hugely helpful answer! It sounds like there's something activity-wise that all of us will enjoy, and I like the sound of the resort you mentioned. I had a quick look online for car rental companies and it seems like there are a ton of businesses available to choose from, so that makes it easy for getting from A to B.
