I was drawn to a wall of delicate earrings on display at the front of Tsumugi, a small store selling handmade goods in Kawagoe's Penny Candy Alley. Of the selection, I was particularly enamored by the wind chime earrings. Wind chimes are a symbol of Kawagoe for the last ten years, due to the famous wind chime display in nearby Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine. The pair I chose are really colorful, but not gaudy, and will go with so many different outfits. They are also small and delicate so can be used for many different occasions. Moreover, they were cheap at only 1500 yen.

While I say they were 'cheap' at 1500 yen, I don't think I would have bought them if they were much higher than that. While they are gorgeous I doubt they are very durable. I am not even sure what the part that goes into the ear is made out of. I should have asked. I have no problem with copper or other cheaper materials than silver, gold or platinum, but I know copper and equivalent can cause some people to develop a rash or reaction. Do take care if you plan to purchase from here and ask the staff what the wiring is made out of.
