Almond Castella: The Most Boring Packaged Cake?

When I was looking through the bread section at a supermarket, I was attracted by this package of almond castella.

What made me interested in this was not just the golden colour and its almond shape, but the fact that this was only 64 yen when most other breads were 100 yen or more.

Of course, I had to give this a try, and I was really surprised that this castella was just... plain castella.

There was no cream or any kind of filling. It was just plain fluffy cake, which was great, but it explains why this was cheap.

I really liked the flavour though and will pick it up again.
