Hoegaarden Rosée
I like fruity things and I like wheat beer, so I had to give this one a try.
The first sip feels a bit like a raspberry sherbet punch in the face. It is very sweet and the slightly artificial raspberry flavor overpowers everything else. Ok, now that we are prepared for the kind of beer that awaits us, the second sip comes in a lot nicer. There is still the initial sweet raspberry sherbet flavor, but then we also get some mild hoppy and yeasty notes which remind us that we are drinking a fermented beverage and not raspberry soda. What stays is a pleasant aftertaste of yeast and still slightly artificial raspberry.
Even if it only has 3% alcohol by volume, this is by no means a light beer. It is a sweet full bodied wheat beer that doesn’t offer a lot a flavor development, but is still fun to drink.
