Rediscovering an Untraveled Bamboo Grove

        Many people are far more familiar with Japan's famous Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. it is one of Kyoto's top sights and no doubt one that Japan takes pride in. Tourists from all around the world, and even local ones, come to experience and see this wonderful place. Indeed, it is quite a sight. Aside from the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto, there are other popular ones that can be found around Tokyo. Though these bamboo forests are not as widely known as the one in Kyoto, they are also visited by a number of tourists. And, if you are curious, just type it away in Google and you'll definitely find them.

        The Kisogawa Bamboo Grove can be found in Kani shi; a city located in the south-central part of Gifu Prefecture. It lies near the bank of the Kiso River which flows in the northern part of the city. 

(On the opposite bank is Minokamo City, home to the 51st station of the Nakasendo, Ota-juku.)

        The place can be a breath of fresh air in the middle of an industrialized and busy city. For many of the local residents around the area, this bamboo forest has been a place for them to take their morning walks and daily runs. The sound of the river flowing and the rustling leaves of the bamboo gives off a very calming and peaceful atmosphere.

(The bamboo forest from end to end is about 10 to 15-minute walk. Unless you are taking your time.)

        During the course of the pandemic, I have found myself travelling more and searching for places that are not commonly visited by tourists. Overtime, just wandering around and escaping the crowd and the hassle brought about by the pandemic, I have learned to appreciate nature for what it is.

ACCESS

Kisogawa Bamboo Grove is a 40-minute car drive from Nagoya City via Route 41 through the express way. It can also be accessed by train from Meitetsu Nagoya Station to Nihonrain-Imawatari Station which will take roughly an hour and a 10-15 minute walk from Imawatari station to reach the bamboo forest.
