The Joy of Having a Futon Dryer

A number of years ago, I had accumulated a very large number of Docomo points, so with the help of a Japanese co-worker I got to exchange those points for some things from the online catalogue of things available for points.  Some of the points went to a box of different curries.  The rest went to acquiring a futon dryer.

The Joy of Having a Futon Dryer photo

Not the best photo, but it is in use as I type.

This little machine is absolutely wonderful, especially on the coldest winter nights that come in January and February.  I absolutely hate getting into a cold bed.  I slip the plastic sheet into my bed when I make it in the morning, and in the evening before going to bed, I stick the hose in the labeled spot, and turn it on for a bit to warm the whole bed.  It has been particularly useful on evenings when I come home late and head to bed soon after getting back.  After it warms up the bed, I slip the plastic sheet out, and get into the warm, cozy bed.

I think technically it is also to be used to kill the dani (dust mites) or to actually dry the futons on days or during seasons (like rainy season) that one cannot hang out the futon.

The plastic sheet for mine can also be folded in half and zipped up and laundry or I guess other things can be put inside to dry.  I have never tried this.

Mine also came with a boot attachment.  When I got it, I figured I would never need it, but it came in super handy when my hiking boots got soaked and, due to the ensuing wet weather, just would not dry.  After a few days, I used the futon dryer with the boot attachment.  It took some time, but did the trick.

This little wonder has become indispensable for me during, as I said, especially, January and February.  I think they are available in home centers, and electronics shops . . . or see if any of your point accumulating accounts have enough points and offer one in exchange.

I am a hiker, walker, and abundant photo-taker. After spending my first many years in Japan in Tochigi, I relocated to Tokyo at the end of 2012. I love visiting the numerous temples, shrines, castles, and former castles that can be found in the mountains, rural areas, and tucked away within cities.

I have a question. If we have a few futons, then how?

I have just bought it, aim to warm the futons up - it's very cold now and the heater does not help completely. I myself does not use it as I am not there in Japan, but bought it for my house there. I guess that we can use it one at a time, right? There are 4 futons -_-

@Pichayanee4479 You might need to warm them up one at a time. I have seen one that would cover a double bed (so 2 futons). So it depends on what size you got. The good thing is that once the futons are heated, they do stay warm a while. And I agree, it is cold and the heater does not help, especially in the bed.
