The description
Sapporo Brewery, best known for beer, ventures into liquor with its Mitsuboshi Grapefruit Sour. It's available in 350 ml and 500 ml cans. I got the shorter version at my local Family Mart convenience store.
The good
I'm not a fan of grapefruit-flavored drinks unless they're freshly squeezed. I find the canned drinks have flavors that seem artificial and off. I took a risk when I got this one, but the price appealed. Woah, this was a nice alternative to the average shochu-based highball in a can. This alcoholic drink based on domestically produced vodka has a good body with a sense of richness. The grapefruit flavor isn't cloying like so many other canned grapefruit sours I've tried. This one is a treat, tangy and sparkling.
The not so good
The only complaint is that this particular brand of grapefruit sour isn't widely available. The local Family Mart stocks it, but I haven't found it in grocery stores or other convenience stores in my region. It's quite the tease as this is the white grapefruit version. According to the Sapporo Brewery website, there is also a pink grapefruit version. If I can get my mitts on that one, I'll review it for you, too. This grapefruit sour goes down so well, that I worry I want a second one. At 5% alcohol, a second one won't knock you down.
