This week, I received the package from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, 総務省, which collects statistics in an effort to improve the management of finance and disaster response. It also helps the government to provide services to foreign nationals. This is the 2020 Census, conducted every five years, which includes all residents long and short term in Japan.

The package has a form, postage-paid return envelope, and an information booklet. This will all go in my recycling bag.

This time, the package also includes a QR code, login ID, and access key so I can respond online. There is no need to send the paper version, or talk directly to a census taker.

The ministry has a simple to navigate English version of their Census 2020 website.

Count yourself in. You've got until October 7th to respond either by post or online.
