The description
Asahi Breweries packages two of these "hard seltzer" drinks with domestically produced vodka at 4% alcohol in tall, narrow cans distinguishing them from shochu highballs, or chuhai.
The good
The idea is to appeal to folks who want a low-alcohol, low-calorie sparkling drink. Think vodka-based fruit-flavored carbonated drinks that are common in North America. The Lemon & Lime Fruitzer has only 32 calories. This is slightly lower than canned chuhai and a lot less than beer which can be three times more calorific. The drink has fruit juice, some flavoring, sugar, and curiously, some added vitamin C. I had expected something like hard lemonade. It's not nearly as sour and seems to be more carbonated.
The not so good
It's nothing like a hard lemonade. It's not like a canned highball, either. It's just kind of a nothing drink. It's got some fizz and some tartness from the lemon and lime flavoring, but it's got a weird tinny flavor that might be the boost of vitamin C. I wouldn't get this again. It tastes like the aluminum can it comes in. Either go for a chuhai, a hard lemonade, or if you like your whisky or bourbon, one of those canned highballs. The latter tend to have between 6 and 9% alcohol, so that's something to keep in mind.
