The description
This dry sausage from Prima Ham is labeled Hokkaido Tokachi. The content is a mix of pork, chicken, and beef augmented with soy protein. What you get is 4 40 gram sausages.
The good
Since it's hard to get really good sausages in Japan, I make do with domestic varieties and look out for price point and flavor. These sausages, labeled mild dry, contain a mix of proteins including chicken, pork, beef, and soy. They're okay eaten as is for an accompaniment to beer. However, I prepare them in a few different ways. One favorite right now in my okazu repertoire is really simple - slice a sausage, pan fry, or roast in the oven toaster and combine it with diced celery dressed with a little ponzu, soy sauce, and salt and pepper.
The not so good
I'd rather go for dry sausage without the fillers. In the case of these dry mild sausages, the filler is soy protein. It won't hurt you, but it's not the best quality. How I miss simple, spicy sausages from home... For the price, they are okay. They're packed individually in plastic casings, but the sausage casing itself is edible, so there's no fuss and they keep well. I get why they're individually wrapped, but it generates more plastic than just packing them together. If you're minding calories, roast them or pan-fry or grill them and pat them in kitchen or brown paper.
