Kamakura flavor and longing, Sangosho Garipote
The retro paper packaging and KAMAKURA caught my eye yesterday when I was grazing for snack food at my local convenience store in suburban Chiba Prefecture.
This is garipote, garlic potato snacks, from Kamakura City's popular curry shop Sangosho. It's located near Shichirigahama Station on the quaint Enoshima Dentetsu train line.
I long to go to Kamakura City. It's not just the local favorite izakayas and historical temples that beckon me.
Years ago, I worked around the corner from Kamakura Station and on my days off, I hiked and soaked in the culture of this ancient city. It feels like my yard, so to speak. On top of that, I have some lovely friends who make Kamakura CIty their home and I haven't seen them since last year. Due to these trying times, I have hesitated to travel much beyond a few kilometers from home.
So garipote, garlicky, crispy, and a little smoky, is my consolation until I feel confident that the pestilence is behind us. Savoring snacks and local specialties is what gets me through.
