Blessed New Year Potato Chips

I don't usually get products with ise ebi in them since my partner is violently allergic to crustaceans. The packaging with the bold kanji 開運 kaiun, or opening to fortune.

The package explains that the employees of the snack maker, Yamayoshi, went to Nakajima Shrine in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, to ask for blessings. The shrine honors the kami of お菓子 okashi, snacks and sweets before commencing production.

The 海老 ebi is an obvious choice for the new year. The kanji mean old man of the sea, because it's curved shape evokes the bent back of an old man, and is a symbol of longevity you often see in osechi new year spreads. The mayo? Japan's favorite condiment after soy sauce, right?

The ise ebi mayonnaise flavored chips have lots of umami. Umami is a noun...I think we need an adjective here. Umamish sounds too tentative. Perhaps umaminess?
