The description
Noko shiro sundobu chige yo supu, rich white sundubu-jjigae soup is imported by Moranbong Japan Foods. The soup base has beef bone broth and seafood.
The good
This is an easily prepared version of sundubu-jjigae soup imported by Moranbong Japan Foods. I took a gamble on soup base because I craved a warming soup to remedy winter sniffles. And it taught me about jigae, Korean stews. The package indicates that this soup base, unlike a lot of prepared Korean foods, is not the least bit spicy. It's prepared with two kinds of broth - beef bone and a combination of scallops and clams. It's also dosed with ginger which warmed me up and soothed my cold symptoms. According to package directions, I added 400 g of tofu and an egg.
The not so good
The prepared jigae, Korean stew base, is reasonably priced at 250 yen and yields about three bowls of soup. It's not a bad deal. Despite the omission of spicy Korean condiments, it's flavorful and filling. It's economical as the preparation requires only a single pack of tofu (I opted for momendofu) and an egg. The directions are easy to follow. Simply spoon the whole 400 g pack of tofu into the soup, heat, and add an egg. The egg poached well in the soup broth. The stew turned me onto trying more Korean foods, spicy or not.
