Tokyo voted as one of the world's friendliest cities
If you've done a bit of traveling around the world, you probably have a mental list of cities where you felt like the locals were warm and welcoming, and others that perhaps don't fit that description.
Travel website Rough Guides recently released their list of the world's friendliest cities based on responses from their readers, and Tokyo came in third place beaten out only by Dublin, Ireland (1st place) and Bangkok, Thailand (2nd place).
Some quotes on their website from readers who took part in their polling included "people couldn't do enough to help and went far out of their way to assist", and "being offered help when lost or looking for something without having to ask".
It made me think about my own Tokyo experiences. I think the city is friendly enough, but maybe in a less open way than some other cities I've visited before. I think people are generally polite -- there's an order and structure to things like public transport, for instance -- but I think if we're talking about in your face friendliness that could be overestimated a tad.
If you're a Tokyoite (or travel there regularly for work or leisure), how do you rate the city's friendliness? Are there any other cities in Japan that have made you feel warm and welcomed?
