Underrated spring blooms: nanohana
In all the hype surrounding sakura season, I feel like there are a whole laundry list of blooms that get overlooked (or at the least, underappreciated) during the spring season. One that I feel fits this category is nanohana, and I guess maybe it's not really seen as a "flower" because it has a utilitarian aspect to it -- they are used for oil and as an edible plant, so you can see how maybe their beauty gets downplayed.
One place not too far from home that I've visited in the past is the Roadside Station Hananoeki Chikumagawa in the Iiyama area of Nagano. It's perhaps one of the most scenic Michi no Eki I've ever come across when the nanohana are in bloom across the way. I don't know that I'll have a chance to revisit there this year, but I would recommend it if you are passing through the area.
Do you have any nice nanohana spots in your part of Japan?
