Favorite foods for your international visitors

With tourism back in full swing I've had a few visitors from my home country this month, and I really enjoy the opportunity to show them around Japan. I will say that not all of my visitors have been adventurous eaters, and it got me thinking about some "safe foods" that every visitor has seemed to enjoy here.

One of them is tempura. I feel like fried anything is an easy option, and especially vegetable tempura -- I know not everyone is a fan of tail-on shrimp, for instance, so the veggie options like kabocha and sweet potato are pretty friendly to even fussy eaters.

Japanese curry has been another one that international guests have loved, and I'm not even talking about anywhere fancy -- just good ol' Coco Ichibanya does the trick! I think the customizability of toppings, spice level, and so forth makes it easy, and a lot of stores also have vegetarian options.

Similar to tempura, tonkatsu also appeals to just about everyone I've hosted here, especially when it's served pretty simply with rice and shredded cabbage. The fried element means it feels fairly "adult chicken nugget" style.

Noodles are also a fairly solid choice, especially ones that aren't in broths that have the noticeable fishy dashi flavor. Yakisoba has been a good one!

Have you hosted any friends or family from your home countries and had to be mindful that raw foods or adventurous tastes might not be their favorites? Any other options you would suggest other than my usual go-to list?
