Tokyo ranked as the world's second best student city
One thing that I've noticed about quite a few expats in Japan is that before they've come here to live long term, they started out as students. I can understand the appeal, especially since my husband lived the student life here for several years to complete his PhD. It's safe, there's plenty to do, loads of unique cultural experiences to take part in, and the education system here is pretty well revered across the globe.
Maybe it's no surprise, then, that Tokyo was ranked as the world's second best city for students for the coming 2025 year by Top Universities, only beaten out by London in the United Kingdom.
Their site mentioned that "even with 18 internationally ranked universities, it still has a very low proportionate student population. Tokyo, then, is a city for those who favor total immersion in local culture rather than living in a “student bubble”.
Student life in Tokyo means true cultural immersion.
Tokyo was also praised for having loads of professional and internship opportunities, owing to the fact that the city is one of the world's leading financial centers.
Are you (or were you) a student here? What made you choose Japan for higher education studies if that was your path to expat life in Japan?

I was never a student in Japan. However, I volunteer alongside current and former foreign students in the multicultural project I've mentioned in my posts. The grads work in education, science, and business. They have rich experiences here and have integrated, becoming fluent in the Japanese language and adept at navigating work culture. Nothing but admiration for them!
