Things I love about winter in Japan: ichigo daifuku

Is there a better wintery sweet treat than ichigo daifuku? I feel like it's got a great combo of flavors/textures going on with it -- the chewy outer mochi, the earthy red bean paste filling, and a fresh strawberry in the center. I love that it's sweet but not too sweet (props to Japanese desserts for that), and the relative simplicity of three key ingredients reminds me that sometimes less is more.

I like that they're relatively easy to find at this time of year, in my area, anyway. I can find them at my local supermarket, at a traditional sweets store in my town, and sometimes at the local farmer's market.

I'm sure most (if not all) of you have already tried them, but if you haven't I would definitely recommend it, as long as you like red bean paste! I know that's a polarizing ingredient sometimes!
