The description

This product is a matcha dumpling and red bean parfait – it's a new item at 7-11 and was priced at 324 yen including tax. I don't know how long it will be on shelves for!

The good

If you like desserts with lots of flavors, textures, and elements, this dessert will be right up your alley. The parfait has quite a few layers – a matcha jelly, topped with a matcha mousse, matcha dango, red bean paste, orange slices, and whipped cream. Lots going on in the one cup! I liked that all the flavors worked well together. The earthy matcha dango, jelly, and red beans were sweetened by the addition of the whipped cream and the orange slices – but in a quite natural way. Everything felt balanced.

The not so good

This is definitely a higher priced dessert item when compared to other products in convenience stores at the moment. I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad value, since there are so many different elements in the dessert – but I do think it might deter people from giving it a try because other products are significantly cheaper. Other than that, I do think if you enjoy traditional Japanese flavors and you want a dessert that doesn't feel overly sugar-filled, that this one will fit the bill nicely. Give it a try if you see it at your local 7-11 convenience store!
