Olympics excitement (and a reminder of what could have been)

When I was in my 20s, it was always a bit of a bucket list item for me to attend an Olympic Games. We had the Olympics in my home country in 2000, but I was still a teenager then and it wasn't like my family had the cash to just splash on tickets, accommodation, and flights to get to another city. Knowing that we'd be in Japan when 2020 rolled around had me filled with excitement, and I applied to the lottery for tickets and snagged some for the diving competition.

And then, the pandemic happened. My dreams for getting to see Olympians in action were dashed pretty quickly, with the schedule moved to 2021 and no spectators allowed for the events.

While I'm looking forward to the Paris Olympics this year and I'm ready to support both my home country and Japan, I'm just feeling a bit bummed about what could have been in Tokyo's case. 

Will you be paying close attention to the Olympic Games in Paris over the coming couple of weeks? Do you have any disappointment that Tokyo's Games turned out the way they did?
