Library Coworking: Wednesday

My usual library is a ten minute walk away. In addition to the library, the building is a multicultural center, or a space for consultation, classes and events. There is a cafe where chefs from around the world cook food from where they're from, so the menu is always different.

The library itself is not big, but it has a kids space, some foreign books, comics, and the usual library things like space to sit and read.

I was planning to be in the building to volunteer in the afternoon, so I went over with my laptop in the morning to finish up a project. It was fairly productive and there were plenty of seats available.

Summer vacation and the space available for students to hang out and “study” upstairs meant that lots of students were around, some running in the library after being asked to stop and some playing so loudly upstairs that they could be heard in the library.

Most of the signage is written with furigana for both kids and foreigners.

Outside I noticed that books can be donated to the library. I stood outside to eat my lunch because there is no designated space to eat other than the cafe and the space the students were using.

Last week I noticed that all three of the newspapers at that library had front page articles about US President Biden stepping down from running for reelection and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.

If you are wondering about voting as a US citizen living in Japan, you can register or make sure you are registered to vote while living abroad at fvap.gov. Overseas citizens can vote.
