A Quiet Coronavacation
While everyone is scared about traveling because of Covid19, some of us are excited about traveling with discounted flights and hotels.
We just needed a short getaway and onsen sounded relaxing. Rather than a city, we needed some nature time near mountains and the ocean. This is generally not hard to do in Japan, from wherever you live.
I decided on a remote part of Nagasaki Prefecture for two reasons: we hadn't been yet and there are no reported Covid19 cases there.
(In general, there are very few cases in Kyushu Region as of now and people are not panicking in the way I hear they are in other places.)
Everywhere we went, public transportation was almost empty and tourist areas were fairly quiet.
Still, we could relax, even more so because there were no crowds in a normally busy season.
We opted to wear masks while using public transportation. Except for the bus in our city on the way home, there were very few people. While chatting with the ferry staff, he said there were very few passengers due to Coronavirus. They must be operating at a loss despite the decline in customers.
For most people, the virus isn't a big risk, and relax time actually strengthens the immune system. The tourist industry is struggling now, so I'm glad we could help support the local economy a little.
