Miyazaki Beef Party!!

Luckily, I've had the chance to travel all over Japan but I haven't been able to make it out to Kobayashi City, in Miyazaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, before. With domestic travel finally starting to open up I am looking forward to visiting Kobayashi City in the near future.

My favorite part about traveling in Japan is that each city is very unique and has its own local food and culture, and Kobayashi appears to be no exception in this regard.

Food and Drink

Kobayashi is well know for Miyazaki beef and I suggest trying meat sushi which is quite rare to find outside of Japan. Thanks to City-Cost I was able to try some Miyazaki beef for the first time.  The cuts of beef in this case came from Kobayashi. 

We decided to have a small birthday party at my friend's house and we compared different cuts of beef. The star of the meal was of course the Miyazaki beef and I've never had beef like it before. It was tender, juicy and just melted in your mouth and probably some of the best beef I've ever eaten. I had it medium rare with a little bit of salt and we paired it with some sake. Big thanks to my friend, who did all of the cooking and hosted the party!! I am looking forward to trying Miyazaki beef again and hopefully in Kobayashi next time.

Sturgeon sushi is also apparently well known in Kobayashi and something that I haven't had a chance to try yet. You can have it raw, charcoal-grilled and original. There's also a sturgeon collagen hotpot which I am intrigued by.

Food always tastes better with a drink or two and I always and try and check out a few local breweries when I travel. Kobayashi Ikoma Kogen Winery (https://www.np-k.co.jp/wine/) and Suki Shuzo (http://suki-syuzo.jp/) are two local breweries located in Kobayashi that could be worth checking out.

Local Festivals

Visiting local festivals (Find of list of festivals and events in Kobayashi City here: http://kankou-kobayashi.jp/en/publics/index/91/#page-content) is always fun and every city has their own unique festivals throughout the year. It's a great chance to interact with locals, eat street food from vendors and perhaps wear a yukata (Japanese summer kimono). Hopefully I'll be able to visit the Firefly Festival at Idenoyama Park or the Water Festival someday.

Outdoor Activities

Kobayashi is also well know for outdoor activities. Hiking in the Kirishima Mountains is next on my list of mountains conquer and the views looks amazing. After a long hike there are plenty of hot springs to take a dip in.
