Cup Noodle - Smoky & Spicy Sio

Not sure if this is a new flavor, or just an old flavor that has been brought back but I found it at my nearest grocery store after the release of the One Piece x Nissin Cup Noodle commercial. 

Yes, yes, I had to buy it only because of the One Piece connection. As a One Piece fan, this commercial sold me on the cup noodle, tell me not. Can't go wrong with a high school setting of your favorite anime and cup noodle. 

I thought this was an interesting flavor - Smoky and Spicy Sio (smoky black pepper shio).

Attached is "smoky" olive oil... whatever that is. 

At first I couldn't tell what those white cubes were. But, once cooked... I found out they were potatoes. Interesting, but I always appreciate potatoes, so I enjoyed it in my little cup noodle.

I should have tasted the broth before adding the "smoky" olive oil because after adding the oil, the broth was very "smoky". I did not care for it at all. It was also "spicy" but that was only because of the black pepper. I'm usually a fan of black pepper, but I think this cup noodle may have overdone it along with the smoky part. I think maybe if they got rid of the "smoky" part, and just left it as black pepper shio then this cup noodle would have been a hit! 

Most likely will not get this flavor again, but I do love the commercial!
