Bird watching green space
Ichikawa City's plentiful greenery and waterways contrast with the busy urban areas in bordering Funabashi and Kamagaya Cities. For bird watchers in the area, the Okashiwagawa #1 Reservoir is a wide-open space worth visiting. The reservoir was constructed in the 2000s to prevent flooding of the low-lying areas in the Mama River basin. The Okashiwa River that runs alongside the reservoir is filled with fish and attracts wading birds and cormorants. The reservoir itself has a nature interpretation center with Jomon-era artifacts excavated on the site. There isn't much tree cover as this is a wetland basin with ponds with meandering paths. The best time to go is in cherry blossom season, strolling along the river to the reservoir.
