Convenience store in a cold climate - but with no hot food!
If you’re like me, when you travel you like checking out different regional specialties and fun snacks that are on different convenience store shelves. I went to Seicomart (Hokkaido’s biggest convenience store chain) expecting some new different goodies, and perhaps a pizzaman to help me tackle the winter chill - but I was really surprised to see that they had no hot food! Not sure if only some stores have a heated food section, but I thought that given Hokkaido has such a cold climate for big parts of the year that the hot food would have been a given. On the positive side, they have plenty of inexpensive “Secoma” store branded goods from bottles of tea to bags of potato chips, if you’re trying to save some yen. I even saw small sized pastas in the refrigerator section for 100 yen plus tax! Bargain - so on the price front they are very good value.
