Train That Goes Up the Mountain

We used the Hankyu line to Rokko Station, then took Hankyu Rokko bus (210 yen) to Rokko Cable Shita Station. (There a frequent busses and several lines going there.) The cable car has operated since 1952 and the station building is beautiful inside. The two previous cable car designs are really cool if you look at the photos on their website. The cable car itself is built at an angle and goes almost 500 meters up Rokko Mountain at 13.2-26.4 degree angles. It's quite a feat of engineering if you're into that kind of thing. The front of the cable car has a great view, but the back car has a glass top so you can also look up. The view on the left on the way up was great with some small waterfalls in the stream. There are sakura and momiji trees so in the right season there will be a great view. Cars operate every twenty minutes throughout the day. From Cable Sanjyo (top of the mountain), the Rokko Sanjo bus operates and can take you to Garden Terrace for a great view, as well as all the way to Rokko Arima Ropeway.
