Great view upstairs
In the area near Heian Jingu and Kyoto City Kyocera Museum, there is The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. As unassuming as the building is, the space is open with a view of the Heian Jingu Grand Torii on the fourth floor in the relaxing space. I spent some time enjoying the view of the mountains there after all the standing and walking in galleries had made me sore and I was visually exhausted. The first floor also has seating with a view of the grounds and some outdoor sculptures. I saw only the collection on the fourth floor. There is also a (more expensive) special exhibition. I went to see a printing and graphic design show ending soon and the rest of the permanent collection. I didn't expect the funny tea and coffee sets and glass work. It wasn't a huge space but there was a ton of art. One room was dedicated to the artist from Hyogo, Yokoo Tadanori. There were also free catalogs with images from the temporary show.
