Nice contrast between tradition + surrounding modernity

One thing I enjoy about urban area shrines is when the traditional shrine building is surrounded by modern buildings, and that's the case with Naruko Tenjin Shrine in the Shinjuku area. It has a history dating back to 903 AD, and there are a number of designated cultural properties on the grounds. As well as holding a Setsubun festival in February, the shrine's annual festival takes place on September 25 (next week!)
