Enchanting waterfall and delicious soba
For an autumn or winter excursion, tiny Daigo Town in Ibaraki Prefecture is a must-visit place to see the waterfalls and take in the fresh air. On the little rivers that run through the town there are a number of soba noodle shops. Perhaps the best place to take a rest to enjoy the scenery and the local food is Momijien. The soba master here takes great pains to mill the locally-grown buckwheat with his own machine to create the perfect noodles prepared with spring water. The view from the veranda overlooks a river and nearby Tsukimachi Waterfall. Over the roof of the veranda, water trickles to create a flowing screen and a soothing patter of droplets. Seasonal dishes include shaved ice and nagashi somen in summer. The menu includes gourmet coffee, too.
