Teddy Bears here, there and everywhere!
Exploring Nasu machi in Tochigi is a lot of fun, because when you least expect it you come across a fun attraction you didn't even know was there, such as this Teddy Bear Museum. You could easily spend two days exploring and enjoying the area. We did a day trip so our visits to each attraction were quite short, but still enjoyable. Actually for this one, I had left the beetle lovers in the insect museum next door while myself and the youngest of my four children walked down a country road with no footpath to the neighbouring teddy bear museum. The garden and exterior are reminiscent of British architecture and design, and the museum itself has the same feel. You can actually explore the gardens and visit the café and shop on the premises without paying the 1000 yen (adult) cover charge into the museum. If you do pay in, you are first greeted by a talking lion teddy bear and there are lots of other treats in store in the various exhibits. I don't want to spoil it too much for you! Within the grounds, the café and the shop there are also giant teddy bears dressed up in various outfits and costumes, so children will still delight in them even if you don't enter the museum. One of its claims to fame is that the crowned Prince and his family visited there and their photo is proudly displayed in the café. The museum is open from 9.30 am to 5 pm with last entry at 4.30 pm. It closes the second Tuesday of the months of February, March, June and December and the second Wednesday of June.
