Walking paths, playgrounds, and towering trees
Besshonuma s a municipal park in Saitama City's Minami Ward. It's about a 20-minute walk from Urawa Station or a 10-minute bus ride. The park is a wetland that attracts a wide variety of birds. The wetland, now aerated by fountains, has a walking and jogging path around its perimeter, picturesque bridges, wide places to play, and playground equipment, and water features. I visited in April just as the cherry trees were shedding their petals. It's an attractive spot for flowers - cherry blossoms, hydrangeas, and autumn colours. The swampy conditions prompted the city to plant metasequoia and bald cypress. The former is native to China, and the latter the southern United States. They soar over the walking paths. Majestic.
