Stylish Taisho era street for strolling
The promotion for Kawagoe City focuses on the "Little Edo" townscape, but there's also this lovely stretch of Taisho era buildings, too. Along the street are a number of cafes and small shops. While many of the shops close in the evening, it's still pretty to stroll with the lights glowing in the windows. Nearby is the Nakamichi Information Center where you can have a peek inside an old shop house, get your bearings, and connect to wifi.

A taisho period shopping street
Kawagoe is known for its Edo period buildings. But there are also different areas that have been maintained from other eras. Such as Taisho Roman Yume Street. Taisho is the period and Yume means "dream". A dream street from the Taisho period! The buildings on this street are from the early 20th century. The street is not entirely pedestrianized, but cars are discouraged from travelling down it. The street is perhaps best known for its seasonal decorations. For example, right now they have hundreds of "koinobori" carp streamers on display.
