Serving an Isumi specialty, Ihachi Meshi

Daiyoshi is a little roadside shokudo-style restaurant. No frills, simple tableware, and either table or tatami seating. The city of Isumi celebrates master woodcarver Nami no Ihachi with a local specialty, Ihachi Meshi. It's a play on words, as the set meals are composed of eight items in honor of Ihachi. Daiyoshi's rendition is a mountain of rice and fresh fish with two kinds of pickles. The rice is seasoned with furikake. The shop has a limited number of servings a day (some other Ihachi Meshi participating shops also do this), so phone ahead. There is a parking lot on the south side of the building.
