Nice spot for Japanese-Italian eats
Brocken is a cafe in Niigata's Nishi ward, and it's a good spot to check out if you appreciate Italian-Japanese fusion dishes. They have a lot of pasta types on offer including things like shrimp and asparagus pasta or a Japanese mushroom pasta, but they still have some classics like carbonara if you prefer more traditional tastes. They also have some pizza options too if that's more your style. Prices are pretty reasonable, too, with a lot of the pasta options only 850 yen. You can also get certain dishes in a set with salad, a drink, and dessert if you are extra hungry. The restaurant is right by Echigo-Akatsuka Station so it's convenient if you're in the area via public transport.
