Break up a trip in an idyllic setting with a cup of Japan's finest green tea
Gyokuro is a type of high quality high price green tea indigenous to Japan. This roadside station is part of a larger resort, which has a tea ceremony room Hyogetsu-Tei on the opposite side of the river to the roadside station. The roadside station, which is the common name for a rest area on a non-toll road, has a car park, restaurant, shop, smoking area, toilets and seating areas. The shop sells souvenirs from the area. There is some fantastic green tea produce and you can even try a green tea ice-cream. It was honest-to-God the best green tea ice-cream I have ever tasted. The scenery is spectacular; enveloped by forested mountains with a beautiful wide river running by the road. Locals play in the river to cool down. The staff in the facility are extremely welcoming and friendly. Gyokuro no sato is only about 20 minutes from the Yaizu interchange of the Tomei Highway. It is a great place to refresh in nature while sampling some "only in Japan" produce. You can find in-depth information on green tea in City Cost's guide section and blog posts about Gyokuro No Sato and/or Hyogetsu-tei in the main blog section of City-Cost.
