Popular with locals and military members
Sagamiya, better known as Yakitori Stand Sagami or even "that one standing yakitori place in the alley" is a local legend. It's especially popular with those on base and its popularity has spread through word of mouth. The reason for its popularity is that it's cheap and delicious. A magical combination. Every stick of yakitori is 80 yen. White meat, thigh meat, tsukune, tongue, heart, skin... Whatever you desire. It's all one base price. Because it's so popular, the yakitori is always fresh and hot. They use a cool conveyor belt machine to cook the sticks evenly and quickly so you never have to wait long. However, its popularity also means that you likely won't get a front-row spot for the action. It's common that you'll have to reach over people to give your money and get your yakitori. Then you'll eat it spilling into the walking area and repeat the process because you can't stop at just one piece! The selections are in English and Japanese. The staff doesn't always speak English but pointing and handing your money to them effectively conveys what you're trying to get across.
