    Shrine trees enduring redevelopment

Kasukabe City's junction station is undergoing a lengthy redevelopment, resulting a lot of surprising changes. In September 2024, in anticipation of road widening, Akiba Shrine on the west side of train station was demolished. The plan is to rebuild it in 2025. Even more surprising is that this was not the first time the shrine has been pulled down and moved! There's a legacy of the former location next to the police box - married trees that were within the precinct of the former shrine. The monument between the pines and ginkgo trees has been augmented with a decorative red rope and two banners depicting the couple. Here's hoping the city can preserve heritage and revive the station front.
