Teradomari Aquarium

Better options in the prefecture, but still fun

Teradomari Aquarium is a smaller aquarium in the Nagaoka area of Niigata, and while I think it's dwarfed by our favorite (Marinepia Nihonkai in Niigata City), it still provides some inexpensive family fun. Adult admission is 700 yen and elementary aged students are 350 yen, so our family of four can visit for just over 2000 yen. The venue spreads over three floors and includes a variety of marine life, and one of the coolest (to me) parts is the local "satoyama" section where you can learn more about fish from the region. The penguin pool is another highlight and probably one of the more popular areas when we visited.
