    Higashiyama Cube

The special exhibition in 2024 Takashi Murakami Mononoke Kyoto is ending soon and I finally went to see it. This was my first time to visit this museum and it's very big. The Murakami show is in Higashiyama cube in the back of the museum. The hall on the ground floor as well as the garden in the back have some of his sculptures. Everything for this show was large scale and detailed. I didn't expect this for the artist best known for "superflat" but there are layers and details including wallpaper and flooring designed for the space. The show was great and my biggest frustration was the layout of the gift shop as traffic didn't move smoothly. It was pricy for a show that only took around an hour to see. The cost does not include admission to the other exhibits in the museum. I'm glad they included a wall filled with all the staff that helped to put together the show. He has a large staff of painters and more that work on the production and management of all his work, so I don't want anyone to be shocked that he could do this much on his own - that's not possible.
