Ride the Catbus!
This might not sound like the most interesting place to spend a Sunday afternoon but nothing could be further from the truth. Admission was cheap, and the bottom floor was about what one would expect-- a large variety of stuffed bears from different points in history, doing different things in different clothes. That was well and good but the big source of entertainment comes from the second floor, which is a big tribute to the Ghibli classic Tonari no Tottoro, a family favorite on our house. Patrons are greeted by a smiling Mei figure behind a small counter, inanimately selling invisible tickets for invisible acorns. In the next corner, a large Tottoro doll stands in a woodland scene, ready for a great photo-op. The walls are lined with dioramas depicting scenes from the movie, some of which move at the press of a button. This leads to the next great photo-op: The nekobus! It is large enough that an adult and child can squeeze into the same photo easily. My daughter posed here for a good ten minutes on our slow afternoon visit, and then commenced whispering secrets in the cat-bus's massive ears. That alone was well worth the price of admission.
