Convenient for shopping
What I like most about Ikebukuro station is that you don't have to walk far for shopping. It is useful when I am coming back from a day out in Tokyo, can grab a few things in the station area and get on my train back to Kawagoe! This is the most convenient station to get to Kawagoe. There are also trains from Shinjuku and other stations, but they are different train lines. The Tobu line is the fastest and it goes from Ikebukuro.

Conveniently served by many lines
Ikebukuro Station has a lot going for it in terms of convenience, since it's served by many lines including JR, Seibu, Tobu, and Tokyo Metro operated ones. It's also a fantastic hub for shopping, eating, and entertainment, with department stores and venues like Sunshine City (aquarium, observatory, etc.) a stone's throw away. It is a big station, so as a result there are lots of exits -- always get your bearings before heading out any random one, or you could be in the complete wrong area from where you need to be.
