Gateway to Miyajima
Miyajima is one of Japan's most iconic destinations, and this ferry is the gateway to getting there! It's an inexpensive ride (check https://jr-miyajimaferry.co.jp/en/fare/ for up to date info) and even though I sometimes get seasick on the water, this wasn't the case for this ride as it is a quick A to B journey.

Fast but scenic ride
To get to Itsukushima to see Itsukushima Shrine and Mount Misen, you have some options. You could take the ferry from the pier at Hiroshima mako Station which takes you across Hiroshima Bay with views of the islands. However, the trip on the JR West Miyajima Ferry is lovely despite being short. There are two routes, one which goes directly to the island and the other which swings around to afford views of the floating torii gate. In front of the ferry, you're greeted by a statue of Ranryo-o, a figure who appears in gagaku imperial dance and music. He'll see you on your way!
