Closed permanently
I am sorry to report that along with the Little Prince Museum, the Le Petit Prince restaurant closed its doors permanently at the end of March 2023. It was a lovely restaurant, in style and atmosphere and the food was really good too. Unfortunately, we lost quite a few novelty destinations during the pandemic.

Surprise packet of a restaurant
I visited here a couple of years ago with my husband, and honestly I didn't think the restaurant would be much to write home about -- typically in the past I've found that museums with restaurants attached have food that is okay, but nothing special. This isn't like that at all. The food here was legit in its own right. It's also plated very nicely, which added a pleasant touch. Worth visiting if you're at the museum and get hungry!

Fantastic Restaurant Next to Hakone's Little Prince Museum
Unlike many museum cafes, this restaurant is a stand-alone establishment that happen to be collocated with a museum--in this case, the Little Prince Museum. The restaurant retains the Little Prince theme, offering French cuisine (since the author, Antoine de Saint-Exupery hailed from France) and using aesthetics inspired by the imagery from the iconic book. The head chef was actually a winner on Japan's Iron Chef, and the skill of the cooking comes out in each of the dishes. I am not a big fan of traditional French cuisine, but I enjoyed everything that came out on our table. Best of all, the price is very reasonable. A set meal will run you between 1500 and 2000 yen, and even the limited edition courses only cost about 2000 to 2500 yen. All in all, this restaurant is worth the trip even if you don't go to the museum. The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 - 18:00.
