Canal-side park overlooked by rail and road

One of the views from the Tobu Urban Park line and the Nagareyama Highway is the Tone Canal. This canal connecting the Tone and Edo Rivers, was essential to trade in the Meiji era. Today, the canal's water level is low and crossed by floating bridges. The steep banks make great places for picnics and rambles along the 8-kilometer-long footpath. When you're passing through on the train in March, be sure to look out the windows to see the rows of cherry trees at the edges of the canal. On the path, you'll see a peculiar statue of an obscure American import of the early last century, a shrine to Biliken. The original figure is housed at the Nagareyama City museum.
