Ancient and beautifully maintained temple in Shimizu Park
Konjoin, the temple that lent its grounds to Shimizu Park which surrounds it, is the oldest temple in Noda City. It's an atmospheric spot has a number of precious buildings, a garden sheltered by towering trees, and a bell tower. The main temple building is only open to parishoners, but the garden has seasonal displays of flowers and trees. One of the most spectacular is a cherry tree planted in the first year of the Meiji Period. This tree is the earliest bloomer and probably one of the oldest in the city. Flanking the temple is a Fudoson, a temple to the wisdom king Fudomyo. On the 28th of each month, the priest performs a goma fire ritual open to the public. Next to the harizuka, a memorial for sewing needles, is a belfry. Every new year, the temple welcomes visitors to ring the bell for the first few days of the year. It's a spot of great calm in the middle of a popular park.
