Kominato Port in Kamogawa City is home to a natural treasure, schools of tai, sea bream, that are part of the legendary birth of Nichiren, the Buddhist saint. The story goes that tai lept from the water at his birth, among other natural phenomena. The tour boat takes you out across the bay and passes Kobentenjima, an island with a red torii gate. The boat tour has a recorded description in Japanese which identifies landmarks. The captain urgest passengers to lower the windows to see the scenery and the wild school of fish that surface when the captain throws them bait. On my visit, I saw a few different fish and tai were lurking below. Pick up a discount coupon at the tourist information center at Awa Kominato Station. Word is, if you hold onto your ticket stub, you can ride again for a discounted price.
