Depachika Fish Cake Shop
I had been eyeing this take away shop in the basement supermarket for a while, as I like fish cakes. In this region people call "nerimono" or fish cakes "tempura" even though it's the same word as tempura... I guess in context it makes sense. But they sell satsuma age and chikuwa style fish cakes. They cost around 2-300 yen each, which is more than a four pack of satsuma age in the supermarket near us. They are worth it because they are bigger and thicker, more fresh, and use specific ingredients. The onion is our favorite, but the seasonal (edamame, maitake, corn, etc.) were also really good. I buy a few at a time and have also tried the "chiriten" or the big discounted pack of broken pieces. I fried them lightly with no oil before serving. It's easy and delicious with rice. It's my habit to buy these now on my way home when I work in the neighborhood. The package says "delicious and healthy" and it is healthier than the pork buns I used to buy when I went there.
