Giant Japanese Yew 紫峰杉

A stunning power spot, a giant yew tree

Just east of the top of the Tsukaba cable car station is a stunning yew tree, sugi in Japanese, that grows at the foot of a natural spring. This tree, Shihosugi, is massive with a trunk circumference of 7 meters. It's said to be 800 years old. The tree dwarfs people and exudes a powerful aura. While it might make you feel small, it is known as a "power spot", a place to refresh yourself and appreciate the awesome power of nature.
